I am admittedly a networking junkie. I think so much can be learnt and shared through the myriad of social networks that exist both on and offline. I am a member of a number of online communities including LinkedIn, Facebook, MySpace, Bebo, Flickr, Twitter and frequently network with others offline. I am even in the process of developing my own niche social network (Shhhh!!)
I speak about networking to students and businesses and am currently writing about it and contribute to my network as well benefiting from people from my network for business and school projects I am involved in.
This week I had the pleasure of meeting with Ewan McIntosh (who has recently meme tagged me) and Steve Moore. Steve introduced us to a new private members club just off Tottenham Court Road. Ooh will tell you more about that in the near future. I like Adam Street and The Hospital but this one….oooh!!! It’s amazing who you could bump into in these places too.
Anyway I just wanted to finish this post by mentioning the power of networking for me. It is one of my dreams to meet Nelson Mandela and film a short docu of empowerment for young people I speak to each week. I started a group in Facebook called Help Dave Meet Nelson Mandela and already I have four strong leads. I will keep you posted on this.
In the meantime. Keep forging relationships through networking. I have this weird theory that social networking in many ways can help to break down walls and create deeper and new meaningful conversations. Time will tell.

David,
Nice article. The value of personal and business networking so often goes overlooked.
As ‘they’ say, it’s not always who YOU know, but rather WHO YOUR PERSONAL NETWORK knows…

I hope you do get to meet Nelson Mandela – I did!
He came to the London School of Economics when I studied there and I managed to meet him briefly after his speech. We’re talking ten seconds, a handshake and ‘Nice to meet you’ but hey, that was enough.
When I was at Oxford, I was a member of the Oxford Union debating society and met famous people all the time, including Lech Walesa. Nothing however compares to seeing probably the greatest figure in late 20th Century history up close and personal. They do say great people have a great presence. They are not wrong in Mr Mandela’s case. He can make the hair in the back the necks of mere mortals like me, stand on end.
Good luck with your quest
